Animal Welfare
Our herd supports our family, so we support our herd. We take the utmost care in transporting, protecting, and feeding our animals so they remain healthy and productive. Our passion is husbandry, and we continue to grow our herd and support strong genetics.
Constantly moving and changing feed can be rough on animals, just like people. We take our time, keep the goats in familiar groups, raise offspring on their mothers, and select for animals with strong maternal instincts. We generally don’t take jobs less than a few acres because moving goats that often is hard on them. We keep livestock guardian dogs with the goats to discourage and protect them from predators and we keep a hot electric fence around them to do the same, as well as keep them from wandering. We try and line up jobs with similar feed sequentially so that the goats aren’t experiencing drastic changes in their gut flora from changing feed sources and will sometimes supplement the goats with hay if we feel it is necessary.
